End of life care explained

Most clients that approach us for care in the home ask us the question: "What happens at the end of the life of my Mother or Father when they are being cared for at home?" Well the simple answer we give is that we care for the majority of our clients right up to the last minute of their life, except in curtain circumstances where the client has to go to hospital in a case where they may have just suffered from a stroke. In many instances where this does happen the client recovers from the stoke and they come back home, however unfortunately in some cases the stroke is so damaging that the client dies in the hospital.

So "End of life care" quite literally means to be cared for to the end of the persons life and in this case in the comfort and familiar surroundings of their own home. We look after a number of clients that are terminally ill with deceases like cancer and we make it our aim to provide the "Best Quality of Life" for that person at home with our fully trained carers.

Care at Home's aim is similar to that of the NHS End of Live Care Programme, which is to improve the quality of care at the end of life for all our clients and to enable more people in the community to live and die in the place of their choice.

The Department of Health has information on End of life care: the End of Life Care Strategy - promoting high quality care for all adults at the end of life; how the Government's commitment on end of life care will be delivered; and other end of life care-related issues and programmes..more information
