Home care checklist
Before you call a Care Service Provider
Whether you choose Care at Home or another home care service provider it is important to ask the right questions.
We have prepared a few important questions to ask and things to think about when looking for a home care service.
A good home care service should:
Set out clearly what services they provide – the official document explaining their services is called the statement of purpose and the easily understandable version is called the Client guide. Make sure you are given a copy of both of these. (please note that the Client guide is sometimes referred to as a Service users guide)
Explain their costs and charges properly - and simply and how you can change or end your contract with the service. Give you a copy of their contract for you to study afterwards.
Be happy to answer all your questions - Are they willing for you to meet and talk to their existing customers. Voluntarily offer to show you their inspection reports. Are more concerned about helping you to live your life in the way you choose, rather than trying to make you fit into their routine.
Ask questions about your social and personal needs – including your likes and dislikes about food - and from that devise a care plan that you both agree to.
Make sure that there is a clear and easy-to-follow complaints procedure - This complaints procedure should have rules about informing you of the result. Staff follow strict rules around the dispensing of medicines and keeping up-to-date records. You will be allowed to take care of your own finances, unless you ask them for help.
