Whether you are looking for care for yourself or for a close relative or friend, it is important you consider several key questions before choosing a live-in care agency.

1. What level of rating has the agency received from the CQC?  (CQC stands for “Care Quality Commission”; the government agency responsible for regulating and inspecting all care providers). At its last inspection Care At Home was rated as good.

3. Does the agency employ its carers directly, or are they all self-employed? We believe strongly that, in order to ensure continuity, security and a consistently high standard of care, all carers should be employed directly by the agency providing the care.

4. Does the care agency limit the number of carers responsible for individual clients? With some agencies clients can be left anxious and confused through being looked after by an endless succession of different carers. It is our policy wherever possible to limit to two the number of carers responsible for looking after any one client on a regular basis. This provides our clients with continuity and peace of mind and enables them to enjoy a relationship of confidence, trust and friendship with the carers looking after them.

How we aim to provide the best home care service

Before we decide on a carer for you, we take the time to talk to you at length and understand your specific needs. We then choose the carers from our team who best meets your requirements, both in terms of their skills and their personality. It is important to us that you are totally comfortable with your carers, both personally and professionally and we will always take your wishes into account before allocating a carer to you.

Your carer's role

Your carer is there to assist you with a wide range of personal tasks, as appropriate to your own health and mobility. For example, you may need them to help you get up in the morning and get washed and dressed and then help you again at night to get ready for bed. If required, they will carry out light household duties for you, including cleaning the house and cooking your favourite meals. They may accompany you on walks to the library or the park, or you may want them to join you in a game of scrabble or cards. The important thing is that you have the final say over what should be done and when, and everything will be done at a time and at a pace to suit you.

It was a strong desire to support older people in their wish to remain in their own homes in their later years that led to the setting up of the Company in 1990. This emphasis on choice, independence and dignity remains central to the company’s philosophy of care today.
