What is Convalescent Care?

Is your elderly loved one about to be discharged from hospital and you are seeking post-operative care? If your immediate thought is to contact a nursing home because you are worried about how they will cope and recover without help, think again. Did you know that your loved one could receive 24-hour convalescent care in their own home?

Why Home from Hospital Care?

It can take our elderly friends and family a great deal of time to recover from surgery or to get over a serious illness. Prolonged inactivity during a period in hospital often results in loss of muscle strength and mobility, particularly if surgery left your loved one bedbound.

Furthermore, another important consideration is that general anaesthetics can have a damaging effect on memory function as we get older. Hence it will often take an older person considerably longer to recover their strength and mental alertness after a stay in the hospital.

Post-Operative Care at Home

Studies suggest that recovery rates are better in the home than in nursing homes or smaller medical facilities. Therefore, if you need a dedicated carer for your mother, father, or relative whilst they recuperate from a hospital stay, Care at Home can help. Whether your loved one is recovering from an operation or from a serious illness, with personal care and support provided by a professional carer from Care at Home, they will soon be back on their feet again.

Live-In Convalescent Care With Us

Our home from hospital care (sometimes called convalescent or post-operative care) is tailored to meet the needs of each individual client and will normally encompass help with mobility and personal care, together with cooking, housekeeping and companionship. Essentially, each client has convalescent care tailored to their specific needs.

Even though assistance may only be needed for a few weeks, we always go through the same detailed care needs assessment process as we do when we are arranging longer-term care in the home. Every client’s individual wants and needs are paramount and we aim to provide them with a carer they will like and get on with.
