  1. Live-in care in Winchester for a mother of two: case study

Live-in care Winchester*Mrs G. lives alone in Winchester and has always been a very independent lady. Unfortunately she started suffering regular falls and one of the falls she had left her laying alone on the floor for 12 hours until she was found by a neighbour. This caused concern for her family and it was at this point her son called us for advice. Having discussed the option of live-in care with us, he decided to discuss this with his mother and the rest of the family with the view to trying out our service.

Mrs G. was very worried she would lose her independence and her home would be taken over. But having been reassured that this would not be the case, she agreed to trial live-in care for three weeks until her family were due to stay with her again as they did every three to four weeks.

During this time Mrs G. found the experience quite different to what she had expected. Her carer gave her all the space she required. She was always encouraged to remain as independent as possible and was supported to see her friends out in Winchester and given time alone when they visited her. Her appetite had improved as she was being provided with nutritious meals every day and she found the amount of falls she was having had reduced.

Many people don’t realise that anyone provides live-in care in Winchester, yet Mrs G. and her family were able to see the real benefits of having a live-in carer first hand. They chose to continue with our home care service in a way which allowed the family to visit and stay as they always had. Mrs G. kept her routine; she continued to enjoy having her family time and she kept the same carer.

The continuity of care Mrs G. receives gives her and her family great peace of mind that she is no longer alone and if it wasn’t for the live-in care she receives she would no longer be able to remain living in her own home.
